On the importance of thoughtful master planning...
As open spaces become increasingly rare in our communities, it is critical these areas are thoughtfully considered to provide needed amenity, respite and balance in our increasingly urban and complex lifestyles.
I believe we have an opportunity to reveal something meaningful in the master planning process. We can reveal qualities, feelings and characteristics about places that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. A master plan can be sensory, phenomenological and experiential in nature. It can be all these at once. The plan can provide opportunities to uncover memories, mark routines and speculate about future events, transforming intangible qualities into tangible experience.
